FTC 6 months maternity cover, full time

Applications are invited for the post of Graphics Technician in the Department of Geography. This is a full-time fixed-term post to provide maternity cover. The post will start in mid-August 2019 and will initially be for six months, but there may be the possibility of extension. The successful applicant will join the Technical Team within one of the UK’s strongest Geography Departments, with research specialisms in cultural geography, development, environmental sustainability, geopolitics and Quaternary Science. The Department has a strong community ethos and commitment to engaged teaching, with a wide-ranging programme of fieldwork built into undergraduate and masters level teaching. The technical team make an important and valued contribution to the full range of Departmental activities.

We are looking for a creative and proactive Graphics Technician to manage the day-to-day running of the Humphries Graphics Suite. The postholder will be responsible for the production of maps, diagrams, posters and other graphic material for staff and students. She/he will be required to instruct undergraduate and postgraduate students on poster production, modern cartographic, digitising and scanning techniques. The postholder will be responsible for sourcing and maintaining consumable stocks within budgetary constraints. The postholder will also have the opportunity to attend at least one of our department-led overseas field trips to support staff and students working in the field. 

Applicants are expected to be skilled in the use of graphics software such as Adobe Illustrator, and be able to work across both Mac and Windows operating systems.

This is a fixed term post to cover a period of maternity leave for six months. This appointment could end earlier than expected should the substantive post-holder return to work early.
