Applications are sought for a Research Technician, who will predominantly assist in the provision of technical services to on-going projects, under the general direction of Dr. Peter Thorpe. The lab studies the mechanism of chromosome segregation in baker’s yeast.
The responsibilities of the role include:
- Performing experiments to study chromosome segregation, including molecular biology, genetics, genomics and fluorescence imaging
- General laboratory maintenance
- Some supervision of other staff and students and training in procedures
Candidates must have a degree in a relevant area, with experience in molecular biology. Experience in data analysis and fluorescence imaging is desired.
Working knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations and an understanding of the implications of complying/not complying with health and safety and best practice are essential criteria for this post.
The position is full-time and fixed term for a period of 20 months. The salary will be £33,615-£36,420 pro rata, per annum based on qualifications, skills and experience, and is inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (pro rata) and a pension scheme.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
