Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology

The Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology opened in May 2007 and is led by Professor Costantino Pitzalis. The Centre is focused on the development of innovative therapeutic and diagnostic approaches to inflammatory and degenerative arthropathies, particularly rheumatoid and osteo arthritis. The emphasis is on translational research by combining strengths and expertise of basic and clinician scientists working together.  The Centre offers newly refurbished laboratories, cutting edge facilities and is located in the heart of the City of London in close proximity to the Barbican Arts and Music Centre. The Centre is integrated in the Musculoskeletal Clinical Academic Unit at Barts Health NHS Trust also directed by Professor Pitzalis, which includes in addition to Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and Sport and Exercise Medicine offering unique translational opportunities.

The primary role of the Research Nurse will be to work as an effective member of the Inflammatory Arthritis Centre Research Team at Barts Health NHS Trust to ensure the smooth running of research projects and clinical trials and to assist in administration of the Inflammatory Arthritis Centre at Barts and The London. The post-holder will be primarily based at the Inflammatory Arthritis Centre, Musculoskeletal Clinical Academic Unit, Barts Health NHS Trust at Mile End Hospital, but there may be occasional need to carry out duties on other College/Hospital sites the campus in the course of the work.

Candidates should be RGN or equivalent, have significant post-registration experience of nursing and ideally experience of nursing in rheumatology and prior experience of conducting clinical trials.

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for two years. The successful candidate will require a DBS check.

Salary will be in the range of £37,411 - £44,015 per annum, depending on experience, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave plus four College closure days over Christmas, a pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loan and family-friendly working.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
