The Leverhulme Quantum Biology Doctoral Training Centre at the University of Surrey is recruiting exceptional individuals to the full-time academic position of Lecturer in Quantum Biology for a period of five years.

Quantum Biology is an exciting new area of research that has emerged in the last two decades through the recognition that quantum phenomena such as coherence, tunnelling and entanglement, may play a crucial role in life. The position will be within the Leverhulme Quantum Biology Doctoral Training Centre (QB-DTC), which is an interfaculty and interdisciplinary Centre in conjunction with both the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and is directed by Professor Johnjoe McFadden and Professor Jim Al-Khalili. The QB-DTC is supported by the Leverhulme Trust and the University of Surrey to provide interdisciplinary training for a career in quantum biology to physical, biological and mathematical sciences graduates. We will be looking for an active researcher, particularly but not exclusively, an experimentalist, with a strong interest in quantum biology and experience in research in quantum biology or related disciplines such as biophysics, quantum chemistry or photochemistry. The candidate should be keen to establish their own research career in quantum biology group and help to develop the QB-DTC into an internationally-recognized Centre for Quantum Biology. The post-holder will work alongside existing researchers in both the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences with research strengths in molecular biology, synthetic biology, systems biology, physics, electrical engineering, chemistry and nanotechnology. The QB-DTC will provide the post-holder two PhD scholarships in quantum biology to help them establish their own research programme.

The candidate will be expected to evidence an outstanding track record of achievement in scholarship and research in fields of relevance to quantum biology, and have a clear strategy to attract and secure research funding for quantum biology research. The candidate will also be required to contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
