The School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing (SATM) is a leading provider of postgraduate level engineering education, research and technology support to individuals and organisations.

Our manufacturing capabilities are unique; combining a multi-disciplinary approach that integrates design, technology and management expertise. We link fundamental materials research with manufacturing to develop novel technologies and improve the science base of manufacturing research.

Cranfield have an exciting vacancy for a Senior Materials Characterisation Technician. Based within Cranfield University, this important role provides the vital technical support for the materials characterisation and research facilities on the Cranfield campus, an area which has recently received approval for significant investment.

You will need to be educated to HNC/D or higher in an engineering discipline and/or relevant technical experience.

The role will manage the operation of scanning electron microscopes in support of research, liaising with students, researchers and academic staff to provide an effective microscopy service.

This will include SEM workload management, adherence to health and safety procedures, environmental compliance and effective calibration and maintenance scheduling.

As part of our commitment to support and develop Technical staff across the University, we have now also become a founding signatory of the Science Council's Technician Commitment. This is a sector wide, collaborative initiative led by the Science Council and supported by the 'Technicians Make It Happen' campaign, to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research.
