Teaching Fellow in Sociology

Since 1946 the School of Sociology and Social Policy has been a leading international university department for theoretically-engaged, socially-relevant and broadly conceived sociological studies. The School provides one of the largest university environments for research and teaching in sociology and social policy in the UK, and continues the proud tradition of social sciences in Leeds that began in 1909 soon after the University itself was founded. The School pioneered Disability Studies, it has played a prominent role in the development of realist methodologies and qualitative longitudinal research, the study of genders, bodies and technologies, life course, youth and family research and the articulation between critical race theory and postcolonial/decolonial studies.
The School has a strong commitment to providing excellent research led teaching together with an outstanding student experience across our taught provision at undergraduate and postgraduate level. We welcome applications from candidates with interests relating to two or more of these areas: Social Policy, Media and Culture, Crime and Research Methods and the proven ability to teach across the discipline. It is anticipated that successful candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in teaching across at least two of these areas.
You will have proven teaching capability with recent successful experience in teaching across a range of modules. You should also have experience of supervising undergraduate and taught postgraduate dissertations. You should be committed to providing an excellent student experience and have an understanding of the needs of a diverse student body. You will also have good communication and organisational skills, including the ability to manage your time effectively and an ability to prioritise tasks.
