Overview:

Do you want to be part of an award-winning team and make a difference to students? Careers & Enterprise are introducing an exciting new post of Student Employability Adviser at Queen Mary, University of London. The post-holder will have the opportunity to work directly with students and play a crucial role in supporting them into work.

The primary focus of the post is to provide application support for students and graduates, giving feedback on CVs, cover letters, application forms and mock interviews. This vital, in-demand service requires good listening and interpersonal skills and a client-centered approach. When not required for student appointments, the post holder will undertake student/graduate communications, events support for careers events in academic schools, and special projects relating to the graduate job market. The post holder will work as part of the Faculty Team of Careers Consultants.

This position would suit someone who is passionate about providing high quality careers support to students, has excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and is confident to work unsupervised.

The Careers and Enterprise Team’s mission is to develop the employability of Queen Mary University of London students from their arrival at the University until two years after graduation. The team consists of c. 40 staff, working in partnership with staff and students to provide support across all of Queen Mary’s academic schools. Careers and Enterprise provision falls under four main strands: information, advice and guidance (to support decision-making, job-hunting and job application/assessments); employer engagement (to network students with employers and alumni via events, mentoring, on-site tasters and vacancies); placement services (including internships, student consultancy and a temp agency); and enterprise (a programme of support for students starting or growing their own business).

The post is a full time/part time (negotiable), permanent appointment with an expected start date of September 2019. Starting salary will be in the range of £27,251 - £33,615 per annum (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Abi Gaston, Deputy Head of Careers & Enterprise at a.gaston@qmul.ac.uk or on +44 (0) 020 7882 2916
Details about the Careers& Enterprise can be found at www.careers.qmul.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is 20th June 2019.

Interviews are expected to be held shortly thereafter.
