The Arts Workshop Instructor will be expected to co-manage and help support the day-to-day studio operations in the main Workshop and provide key technical, administrative, and academic support for courses and programming across the arts, including Theater, Interactive Media, Film, Music and Visual Arts.  

This includes working with the other workshop instructors to maintain the woodworking and metalworking tools and supplies, and supporting students, faculty, productions and programming while continuing to develop and improve programs' capabilities for both modern and traditional fabrication techniques while also supporting set construction/installation. The Arts Workshop Instructor will be expected to support the main- stage student production and student-led projects, conduct technical workshops and safety training seminars in and outside of classes, which includes CAD/CAM sessions, metal and woodworking, updating and improving tool training manuals and training students, student assistants, and others on the proper and safe use of workshop equipment and materials.

Principal Responsibilities -

Academic Support: Work directly with faculty and students to support the successful completion of class assignments, projects and productions. Conduct technical workshops and safety training seminars in and outside of classes. Train students, student assistants, faculty and instructors, and others on the proper and safe use of workshop equipment and materials. Contribute to the development of the Tool Training Handbook, workshop safety tests, assessments and tracking of student tool training. Work with Capstone students to provide design and technical support for their projects.

Workshop Management: Maintain equipment and tools and work with faculty and support staff to ensure that the workshop facilities are in functioning order. Manage inventories, order supplies, and receive deliveries. Regularly develop, schedule and conduct maintenance of equipment and tools. Actively participate in facilities and other committee meetings as required. Work with faculty, staff and students to understand teaching and production goals and ensure the workshop is designed to meet those needs. Provide technical support for other arts programs when required.
Required Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required but a Master’s degree is preferred.

Required Work and Related Experience: Minimum 3 years (ideally 5 or more years) work experience in University and/or equivalent setting providing instructional and technical support for college-level students. Administrative and professional experience managing an arts facility, including program and studio management, inventory, and staff supervision. Strong production, technical and/or fabrication skills. Proven interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communications skills. Must demonstrate ability to exercise astute judgement, to take initiative, and to collaborate well with others. Significant professional experience working in a respective arts field.

Preferred Work and Related Experience: First-aid certification and OSHA training is a plus.

Salaries are competitive with a generous benefits package that includes relocation, housing allowance, health insurance, transportation allowance, and home leave travel allowance.
