The University Network team is looking to recruit three Senior Network Specialists for a period of 18 months. These roles are part of a team responsible for developing and maintaining the University’s core and data-centre networks, and delivering network-related changes for University Programmes and Projects. They will ensure that all network services are stable, secure, scalable and responsive.

Working with colleagues across teams whenever necessary, you will design network solutions for new services, data centres, buildings, and new technologies. You will often be required to design bespoke and ad-hoc network solutions particularly where needed for academic and research purposes. You will take a high-level view of network service design and lifecycle planning, across all elements of network infrastructure from fibre and cabling through to user requirements and applications.

You will be responsible for normal operational running, administering, troubleshooting and maintenance of core network services such as data centre networks, server load balancers, firewalls, routers and switches.

You will also help to ensure the resolution of highly technical problems affecting University IT mission and business critical services.
Network technologies in use at the University include Juniper, Cisco, F5, HP, Dell, Aruba, Aerohive.

The role holder will keep track of industry trends and define technical best practices for their services. They will also lead on defining documentation standards and maintaining a documentation repository for their services.

The role holder will lead on defining security policy for their service. They will coordinate network-related security activities such as intrusion & vulnerability tests, and responses to network-related security events such as DoS attacks.

The successful applicant will have the ability to communicate effectively to people in all areas of the University, to audiences with differing levels of technical understanding. You will need to be highly motivated with demonstrable experience of enterprise scale IT operations and infrastructure.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 23rd June 2019.
