Life Science Technician
This position will be 70% FTE.
Life Science Technician for funded basic/translation research laboratory working in respiratory muscle biology to perform the following duties and responsibilities: to provide pre-, intra- and post-operative support for small animal surgical procedures, including ultimately performance of procedures independently. Will administer medications, anesthesia, carry out physiological monitoring, data collection, surgical assistance and necropsy procedures. Also will be responsible for preparation of laboratories, sterilization necessary items per protocol for scheduled studies. Keeping of detailed records and orderly laboratory is required. Ability to process and handle tissue specimens for microscopy essential but could be taught.
Additionally, technical assistance to the PI (MD) and a research scientist (Phd) in a variety of cellular a molecular assays in muscle biology to potentially include: fluorescence microscopy, gel electrophoresis, western and northern blots, computerized image analysis, PCR, tissue culture.
Coursework in Biology, Physiology, and/or Veterinary Tech highly preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Minimum of 4 months of laboratory work experience with investigations including small animal procedures and molecular procedures required.
Good written, verbal communication skills and demonstrated professionalism in working with colleagues, and both internal and external laboratory users.
