The Laboratory for Myasthenia Gravis (MG) Research is dedicated to “a world without Myasthenia Gravis (MG).” To achieve that goal the Laboratory has a broad-based research program dedicated to understanding the pathogenesis of MG with a focus on development of new therapeutics which span pre-clinical programs, clinical trials, and biomarker discovery. We work closely with the clinicians of the GW Medical Faculty Associates Myasthenia Gravis Center and investigators across the United States and the world in academics and industry. We use rats and mice, including transgenic mice, in assessment of experimentally acquired myasthenia gravis. We also perform human studies of circulating white blood cells, thymus, and serum. We are seeking a Research Associate to join the laboratory.

This position independently carries out research/development activities by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting, under general guidance from the Principal Investigator. Using a certain degree of creativity and latitude, the core responsibilities of this position include making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results. This position compiles results and prepares technical reports and documentation of outcomes. This role is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Working under general supervision, this position typically reports to a Principal Investigator. Responsibilities Include:

• Performs advanced experimental assessment interrogating immune function in human samples and animal models. Experimental methods include but are not limited to: flow cytometry, immune-fluorescent microscopy, qPCR, ELISA and tissue assessment, and behavioral assessment of animals.
• Trains users in equipment operation and research techniques.
• Ensures safe lab practices and cleanliness.
• Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:    

Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:    

• Master’s degree in immunology or a related field
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience in a laboratory setting
