University Services comprises of 1,600 professional staff focused on providing client-centric and innovative services to the University. The group is providing transformational change, defining and influencing future service enhancements, and acts as a shared services function within the University of Melbourne.

About the role

The Manager Collection Development and Maintenance has key accountabilities for the service response and effective and optimised business processes for the stewardship of Scholarly Services resource collections. This position has oversight for the operational response to strategic imperatives in careful alignment with the Scholarly Resource Strategy and Scholarly Services Accommodation Masterplan, and workflow management for resource sharing, collection development and collection storage.

The position has responsibility for the management of financial investment in building the University Scholarly collection (approx. $20m).  This also includes monitoring and compliance reporting for the significant Trust funds and budget under the custodianship of Scholarly Service.

The position reports to the Manager Collection Development and Access and manages more than 10 Collection Development & Maintenance staff within Research & Collections, through strategic leadership, allocation of team resources and continuous service improvement.

About you

You will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience in managing service provision, in libraries or related industries.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to document policies, business cases and procedures, negotiation skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships.
  • Proven expertise in the use of business analysis methodologies in the context of service delivery and complex projects, preferably in higher education or large organisations, including strong process improvement skills and financial reporting.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a changing and fast paced environment.
