Director of Communications, Marketing & Student Recruitment
University of Gloucestershire
Attractive Salary and Package

The University of Gloucestershire’s mission is to enable our students to achieve their full potential through a rich and broad experience, with a priority to provide excellent support for learning. We pride ourselves on building close relationships between students and staff, and on serving our wider community through promoting its economic, cultural and social wellbeing. We are a thriving academic community, offering an excellent experience for our students, reflected in student satisfaction rates well above the sector average and rising graduate employment. Ours is a diverse and vibrant community of 10,000 students and 1,400 staff, with campuses in the beautiful spa town of Cheltenham and the cathedral city of Gloucester.

Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, our new director will lead a large department covering communications, marketing, student recruitment, branding, widening participation and admissions. The focus of the directorate is to ensure all activities are fully integrated to maximum effect, leading and managing our recruitment strategy, reinforcing the university’s brand, reputation and strengths, and delivering our student recruitment goals.  The director will help us achieve our vision and ambitions for the university, to transform the lives of our students and to promote the wellbeing of our community. We are looking for someone with inspirational leadership qualities, who will bring energy, enthusiasm and personal passion to the role, leading a professional and committed team to achieve ambitious goals.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience of developing strategic and tactical student recruitment plans in higher education and be able to demonstrate an ability to step-up to a broader leadership position. You must bring excellent people and budget management credentials, combined with a creative side that will help set strategic direction and define our student recruitment proposition. Candidates must be able to evidence that they are committed to the values and ethos of our university, building strong partnerships with colleagues across the academic and professional services communities, and with stakeholders externally.

Company

With more than 10,000 students and 1,000 staff, the University of Gloucestershire has played a vibrant part in its community for over 150 years.

The University was granted university status in 2001, and predecessor colleges have been delivering quality education in Gloucestershire since 1834. Alumni include Turner Prize nominee Cornelia Parker and Winter Olympic Gold Medallist Lizzy Yarnold.

The University of Gloucestershire's roots lie in teacher training, and it continues to lead in its field today, with Ofsted inspectors judging our Primary and Secondary teacher education programmes as “Outstanding” in 2015.
We are one of top 10 UK modern universities for good honours degrees (Complete University Guide 2016), and 94% of our graduates are in employment of further study within six months (DLHE 2013/14).

The Guardian University Guide 2016 ranks courses including Religion, Philosophy and Ethics as well as Photography in their top ten, and we rank among the top 20 universities in the UK for media and film.

And since the scheme was introduced in 2000, 16 academics have been designated National Teaching Fellows by the Higher Education Academy, placing it as one of the top in the country.

Cheltenham is home to two campuses, the Park and Francis Close Hall, with Oxstalls just minutes from the heart of Gloucester.
Expansion of our Oxstalls campus will feature a new business school, community sports facilities and student accommodation and bring at least 2,000 more students to Gloucester. In Cheltenham, our new £37m Pittville student village will provide accommodation for nearly 800 students when it opens in 2017.
