Harmonised model based assessments of the risks that climate change poses to human and natural systems in the UK are essential to provide information to stakeholders. The IMPRES project (“Impacts and Risk Assessment to better inform Resilience Planning”), funded through the NERC UK Climate Resilience programme, aims to provide new projections and estimates of UK climate risks, including: heat stress to people and livestock, flood risk, water security and agriculture, biodiversity and natural capital. 

The Research Associate will primarily be responsible for analysis of climate model projections to produce metrics of heat stress.  

This work will include updating established impacts models to make use of new high resolution UK Climate Projections 2018 (UKCP18) data. The RA will collaborate strongly with other IMPRES partners, particularly the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, through multi-metric synthesis. The IMPRES project has strong links to ongoing projects with the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and to the Global Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA) network. We expect our results to produce publications which feed into the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report.
