Job Description
A Research Technician II position is available at the Duke University Department of Ophthalmology to provide clinical and surgical imaging support for research and clinical trial study activities involving novel ophthalmic imaging technology.
Job responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
- Operating prototype Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging systems in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Eye Center Clinics, Eye Center operating rooms, surgical research laboratory, and in the medical center
- Collaborating with engineers to set up the OCT system in the operating room
- Assisting with image and clinical data acquisition
- Assisting with handling human subjects data• Handling computer imaging data processing
- Wet lab set up and operation of an optical system
- Surgical video editing
- Communicating study status to peers and manager
- Manuscript preparation
- Preparing and presenting research data during Eye Center and Biomedical Engineering collaborative meetings
Job Requirements
- This Research Technician II position requires a Bachelor’s. Master’s degree in science or comparable field of study preferred
- Experience with OCT imaging systems preferred
- Experience with clinical imaging preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
The candidate should have keen attention to detail and have an understanding/or be willing to learn and follow Good Clinical Practices, Duke guidelines and Federal rules and regulations relating to human subjects research.
This position will be fully trained in the relevant computing and operational protocols for the research OCT systems. MATLAB expertise would be of interest.
This position may require prescheduled a typical work hours due to the time needed to setup and take down the imaging system in clinical areas.
Human subjects training will be required prior to working with patients.
