Global Centre for Environmental Remediation (GCER) is an internationally recognised research and development facility at the University of Newcastle, within the Faculty of Science. The Centre has international research collaborations and research sponsorship spanning Asia, Europe and North America. Through fundamental and applied research with industry and the community, GCER aims to safeguard people's social, economic and physical health and wellbeing by developing innovative, cost-effective and sustainable technologies and solutions that reduce the impact of pollutants on the environment.

What will you do?

There are currently 4 positions available within the GCER team.

Technical Officers 3986 (2 positions)

The Technical Officer roles are responsible for providing high level contributions and support to both Centre Director, and Senior Management team in the development and implementation of analytical strategies for growing the contaminant analysis portfolio of the Centre

Technical Officer- Organic Analytical, 1 year fixed term

This role will oversee the working operation, ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting of specialised analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, LC-/GC-MS-MS, UV-Vis-NIR, FT-IR, TGA and TGA-IR systems for organic contaminant analysis and materials characterizations. You will ensure the appropriate and project specific analytical methods are in place with subsequent optimization and validation.

 Technical Officer -Inorganic Analytical, 1 year fixed term

This role will oversee the working operation and ongoing maintenance of specialised analytical instrumentation, including ICP-OES, ICP-MS, LC-ICP-MS, IC, TOC, Soil C/N/S, Pore Size/Surface Area and Particle Size/Zeta Potential analytical systems for inorganic contaminant analysis. You will ensure the appropriate and project specific analytical methods are in place with subsequent optimization and validation.

Research Assistants 3997 (2 positions)

The Research Assistant roles are responsible for routine analysis of various types of environmental samples at the Centre’s analytical labs and in assisting to establish standardized analytical procedures.

Research Assistant- Organic Analytical, 1 year Fixed Term

You will support the continuous operation and ongoing maintenance of specialised analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, LC-/GC-MS-MS, UV-Vis-NIR, FT-IR, TGA and TGA-IR systems for organic contaminant analysis and materials characterizations. The remuneration is:

Technical Officer (3986) from $96,745 to $112,869 + 9.5% super and is commensurate with experience

Research Assistant (3997) from $67,185 to $77,936 + 9.5% super and is commensurate with experience
