Colorado School of Mines is undertaking a DARPA-funded R&D project to develop and demonstrate near-surface rapid tunneling technology (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). The R&D project will marry concepts and technologies from pipeline horizontal directional drilling and oil & gas directional drilling with novel mechanical, construction, geotechnical and fluids concepts and technologies. This technology has the potential to revolutionize subsurface transportation for both military and civil use.
The Project Manager will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI)/Project Director, the Senior Project Engineer and the team to provide project management support, including driving progress toward milestones, overseeing costs v. planned budget, and ensuring communication across the team and with DARPA. The position will also work with units across Mines to design and implement processes to ensure compliance with sponsor requirements and Mines policies and procedures.

This is a soft money position, intended for a duration of 5 years or more. The initial contract supporting this position has been secured for 15 months. We anticipate continued support both from defense and civilian sources for continuation.
