Job Summary
The Department of Pharmacology is in search of a Research Laboratory Technician. This position is responsible for carrying out husbandry and experiments with mice under minimal direction and for maintaining large breeding colonies of mice.

Responsibilities*
The selected candidate will change mouse cages twice per week (husbandry) and perform daily health monitoring in accordance with the University of Michigan’s rules and guidelines and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The selected candidate will also maintain health and environmental records, perform tagging and DNA sampling, DNA extractions, genotyping of transgenic mice, and maintaining identification records. The selected candidate will perform a variety of behavioral assays, including timed observations, assays for measuring depression and anxiety, and pain threshold evaluations. Other duties will be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications*
Requirements for Senior level classification - A Bachelor's degree in psychology or biological science or related field is required. Candidates must have a minimum of 1 year of experience with animal handling and care techniques, maintaining mouse breeding colonies, performing related genotyping techniques, and performing behavioral assays.
Requirements for Intermediate level classification - Associate's degree in psychology or biological science or related field is required, Bachelor's preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of 1 year of experience with animal handling and care techniques, maintaining mouse breeding colonies, performing related genotyping techniques, and performing behavioral assays.
Requirements for Associate level classification - Associate's degree in psychology or biological science or related field is required, Bachelor's preferred. Candidates must have willingness to perform animal handling and care techniques, maintain mouse breeding colonies, perform related genotyping techniques, and perform behavioral assays.
Requirements for all classification levels - Ability to work and get along with others is a must. Candidate needs to be punctual, detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated. Candidate must have reasonable computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. A minimum of a 1 year commitment is required.
Work Schedule
Days / 8:00 AM -5:00 PM / Monday - Friday, some weekend and holidays

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
