Salary Grade/Minimum Salary:

15/ Minimum: 47,900

Department Profile:

National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center (NSPARC) conducts research and creates customized solutions in areas of economic, workforce, business, and community development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Troubleshoot firewalls, switches and routers. 
2. Ensure all networking devices are automatically backed up every day. 
3. Ensure all networking devices are running the latest versions of firmware/software. 
4. Work with security team to resolve network related security vulnerabilities. 
5. Work with Network Analyst to ensure all network devices are configured and performing optimally. 
6. Work with System Analyst to modify firewalls and VPN for new and existing systems.  
7. Prepare and maintain technical documentation (“how to” guides, standards, network diagrams, etc.). 
8. Respond to and resolve ticket requests.
9. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related area.
Substitution Allowed:  Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
1. Experience with Cisco Networking Equipment.
a. Experience with creating Remote Access VPN accounts 
b. Experience with setting up Site-to-Site VPN accounts.
2. Experience with firewall settings and intrusion protection devices.
3. Experience with ports, protocols, VLANs, subnetting, name resolution, CLI tools (e.g., arp, ipconfig, netstat, ping, tracert, etc).
4. Experience with ticketing system and end user support. 
5. Experience with networking and computer security.
6. Experience with Linux and/or Unix.
7. Experience with F5 (BIGIP) LTM (virtual servers (VS), nodes, pools, traffic policies, etc).

Preferred Qualifications;

1. Experience with Cisco ASA, catalyst, and nexus.
2. Experience with next generation firewalls.
3. Experience with F5 (BIGIP) GTM, AFM, and ASM modules. 
4. Experience with Atlassian software (Jira, Confluence, Crowd, etc.). 

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

Regularly involves lifting, bending or physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., with one often to the point of being objectionable. Injuries may require professional treatment. 

  • Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor. 
  • Job frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds. 
  • Job occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting more than 100 pounds. 
  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
