The Texas Tech University J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts in collaboration with the School of Art is accepting applications for two 9-month, non-renewable positions as Visiting Assistant Professor in the area of graphic design. These positions seek nationally or internationally prominent graphic designers with a commitment to helping to guide the graphic design program to national distinction and nurturing the next generation of graphic designers/educators/scholars enrolled in our BFA program. The successful candidates will teach four courses per semester and begin service in this visiting position at the beginning of the 2019 fall semester.
BFA in Graphic Design w/Master’s Degree in Graphic Design or a related field (such as Visual Communications or Interface Media), or equivalent professional experience. Record of professional activity and/or research that demonstrates emerging or established national recognition in the field of graphic design is paramount. Working knowledge of current practice and theory in interface media related to usability and design with a vision towards future developments. Commitment to quality, student-centered education and working as a team member. A demonstrated an ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations.
The successful candidates will:
• Demonstrate the ability to teach graphic design for digital and print media devices.
• Embrace new forms of critically engaged disciplinary practice in the changing field of graphic design.
• Demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility and advocacy as related to the field.
• Actively participate in portfolio reviews, student advising, and recruitment activities.
Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. Service duties include program-building, as well as a commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the department, college, university, and community is expected.

Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidate’s intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidates would have superior analog and digital graphic design skills, current knowledge of design history and theory and an active practice that includes community engagement and/or collaboration. Familiarity with current and cutting edge practices in graphic design. One or more years of teaching related to the position of hire. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.
