The Global Centre for Environmental Remediation (GCER) is a thriving research centre with over 100 members, including students, post-doctoral researchers and senior research staff. GCER’s mission is to safeguard people's social, economic and physical health and wellbeing by developing innovative, cost-effective and sustainable technologies and solutions that reduce the impact of pollutants on the environment. GCER is a leading proponent of risk-based approaches to the clean-up or management of contaminated sites

A talented researcher is required with an interest in terrestrial ecotoxicity. The project is focussed on processes controlling plant uptake and toxicity of metallic anions, which will involve detailed investigation of metal(loid) speciation using a variety analytical approaches.

What will you do?

The person will conduct daily maintenance of experiments, including their establishment; prepares and analyses samples, including the operation of analytical equipment and techniques; and is actively involved in the preparation of manuscripts. The person will work as part of multidisciplinary team of committed researchers and doctoral students.

  •  Promote research outcomes of the project via presentation at applicable conferences and prepare reports relating to the project. 
  •  Publishing in high-impact peer reviewed journals, in collaboration with colleagues, and as first author.
  •  Co-supervision of research degree students, where applicable.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  •  PhD in Environmental Chemistry, Soil Science or Plant Science.
  •  Demonstrated ability to undertake independent research and publishing work in respected, peer reviewed outlets, in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Knowledge of metal and metalloid interactions within soil-plant systems and their impact to plant productivity and production of agricultural products.
  • Competence and documented skills/abilities operating greenhouse studies independently.
  • Skills in metal(loid) speciation techniques in biological tissues.   It will be an advantage if you have some experience with liquid chromatography and synchrotron-based techniques.

You should also be able to demonstrate:

  •  A high degree of creativity and flexibility;
  •   Excellent communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team of various fields.

The remuneration is from $86,081 + 9.5% super and is commensurate with experience
