School/Center Overview     

The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine is a global leader in veterinary education, research, and clinical care. Founded in 1884, the School is a proud member of the One Health initiative, linking human, animal, and environmental health.

Primary tasks include all standard molecular and cellular biological techniques including PCR, real-time PCR, genetic cloning, Western blot, cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, and cell culture. Solid knowledge of molecular and cell biology is fundamental. Applicants skilled in or determined to master protein work, sectioning, immunohistochemistry and cell culture are particularly desired. Attention to detail and desire to obtain quality results is essential, as are good written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.


Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field is required; Master’s optional; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 1-2 years experience working in a biomedical research lab is preferred. Sound knowledge and adequate skills in molecular, histological and cellular laboratory techniques is required. Must be extremely organized, careful, and capable of working independently with or without initial supervision. Preference is given to candidates who can commit to a minimum of 2 years. Contingent upon grant funding.
