Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The college is composed of three academic departments: Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education; and Teacher Education and Learning Sciences, with approximately 100 faculty members and 92 support and professional staff. The college’s 1,700 undergraduate and graduate students study across 60-plus degree programs that deliver highly-engaged and personalized academic experiences that prepare them to lead in the field of education.

The Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education emphasizes exemplary teaching, scholarship, and service in the context of a university education. With a primary emphasis on improving schools and society, the Department prepares quality educators for middle, secondary, and post-secondary school science, technology, engineering, mathematics, graphic communications, and informal settings. In addition, the Department offers a Graphic Communication Concentration (non-teaching) and several minors, including Technology, Engineering, and Education licensure track and a Technical Graphic Communications track for industry. The Department also has programs preparing professionals for leadership at the master’s and doctoral levels.

Essential Job Duties

Teach the equivalent of eight undergraduate classes during the academic year (four in the fall and four in the spring). Courses may include, but are not limited to, Graphic Communications courses (CAD, robotics, and solid modeling) and Technology, Engineering, and Design Education courses (engineering design methods, materials and process, electronics, graphic arts, and pedagogy). Advise undergraduate students in the Technology, Engineering, and Design Education program. This position will be directly responsible for teaching courses related to technology, engineering, and design education.

Duties include creating syllabi prior to first classes; teaching each class section; creating and presenting course activities to student; grading assignments, providing written feedback to students in a timely fashion, and determining final course grades; holding regular office hours; meeting with Program Coordinator and/or Department Head regarding instruction if needed; participating in program area and department faculty meetings; serve on department level committees; other duties that relate to the course(s) being taught.

Minimum Education/Experience

Requires a doctor’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience in technology, engineering, and/or design education or related fields.

Departmental Required Skills

• Expertise in engineering graphics, geometrics, computer-aided design, physical model, drafting standards, solid modeling, and industrial technology education. 
• Knowledge of materials and processes is required.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

• Experience with the Moodle learning management system; experience in technology, engineering, or career technical education; Standards Certification; CADand Solid Modeling experience with a focus on either mechanical, civil, or architectural drafting; experience with prototyping. 
• Secondary level teaching and/or industry experience is preferred. 
• Experience in leadership and education is also preferred.
