The University of Bristol IT Services Division is expanding its Solutions team to provide more development and support for both new and existing software applications. The applications are a mixture of COTS packages and bespoke applications. We are looking for experienced developers and operations people for open-ended position. This is a great opportunity to get involved in a team which is expected to deliver solutions which support the University's strategy.

The team works in a mix of Windows and Unix environments with applications using Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases. The applications run on a mixture of local and cloud platforms using Hyper V or Azure. The bespoke applications are either written in Java with web applications using frameworks such as Struts, Spring Boot or in Python, Django and PL/SQL. There is also some use of Bootstrap and React.

The team use Git, Maven, Jenkins, and Puppet to develop, build and deploy these services. The team are expected to provide 2nd and 3rd line support as well as provide software development expertise. For this reason, good communication skills are highly desirable. For more details on skills and experience required please see the job description.

If you feel that you can contribute to the team and to the University, we would love to hear from you.

The role will focus primarily around all services related to identity management. You will be expected:

To take a leading role in the development and implementation of standards, tools and working practices to further develop a modern, forward thinking Solutions group.

Advance the establishment of enterprise system platforms which will play a key part in the future of the University's information and technology architecture, improving access to resources used by members of the University (staff and students). Implement innovative systems which can support the University’s core activities.

To investigate, select and develop technical solutions for the provision of University research, education and professional services as well as for external research partners.

To feed new software architectures into the repertoire of techniques and possible solutions available within the IT and research groups.
Analyse staff, student, external customer and user needs and design, develop, deliver, support and maintain innovative and properly engineered and integrated information systems

You must be able to work well both as a member of a team and under your own initiative. The ability to communicate fluently and to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences is essential.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Monday 3rd June 2019.

It is expected that interviews will be held in June. For informal enquiries please contact Nadine Hill (Nadine.Hill@bristol.ac.uk)

Diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world’s leading universities.
