Within this exciting context, we are seeking a new Director of Research to lead the delivery of the Academy’s UK and international research portfolio. Reporting to the Chief Executive and Secretary as part of the Senior Management Team, the Director of Research is responsible for the effective distribution of over £50 million annually in research funding and will manage a team of 25, currently organised in two teams, Research and International. The Director will work to enhance our relationships with partners and stakeholders in the UK and internationally and ensure the impact of our programmes. Working effectively with elected Officers and other senior managers, the Director will provide leadership and be a model representative of the Academy.

Candidates for the role will be able to demonstrate a breadth and depth of strategic leadership and operational management experience in a complex organisation, as well as an understanding of research and research funding. You will have a track record of delivering objectives within budgetary constraints and experience of engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders, including government, higher education and the public sector. You will be committed to the mission and values of the British Academy, and to upholding and promoting these.
