TECHNICAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST, Student Financial Services/Admissions Office, to provide direct application, system, and technical support for SFS and Admissions Office, as a member of both department’s technical teams. Admissions Office duties include conducting SQL queries on the Admissions database, ticket management, monitoring/managing data flows between Admissions and other MIT systems, and providing ongoing application testing and support for the new Admissions application development project. SFS duties include supporting applications used to support MIT’s financial aid programs and student account processing, ensuring up-to-date user documentation, maintaining working knowledge of key SFS systems and production jobs, and serving on department-wide IT initiatives/projects. Will also provide overall desktop support, manage/oversee IS&T tickets, and troubleshoot for both groups; and serve as a backup to the IT liaison.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: three years’ experience supporting hybrid Window and Macintosh environments; understanding of the basic concepts of software development, database management and design, and networks and servers for interfacing with technology staff; knowledge of web-based relational application software systems and with system operation, including File Transfer Protocols, system/database access, and batch scheduling; ability to learn quickly and be accountable for own knowledge acquisition; ability to work independently and as a team member; sound analytical and diagnostic skills dealing with issues that are not readily defined; excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; and familiarity with and knowledge of applications such as PowerFAIDS, Banner Account Receivables, Evisions software. Bachelor’s degree in computer science and information technology; knowledge of IT standards/policies; and experience with the use of spreadsheets, database software, queries (SQL) and report writing tools such as Access preferred.
