Academic Adviser III
Provides program and academic advising services to teacher education candidates in partnership with CHS and LAS departments to all prospective and enrolled students, but specifically those seeking grades 5-12 secondary school teacher certification in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics, and Physics seeking teacher certification. Teach an orientation course that assist secondary students with program planning and guidance toward teacher licensure attainment. Involvement in the unit’s efforts in assessing student development and understanding of the Iowa State University Teacher Education Standards (InTASC) as required for recommendation for teacher licensure. Serve on department, college, and university committees responsible for the maintenance and viability of the teacher certification program. Serve on the Regents Universities’ Iowa Teacher Intern License Pathway (ITILP) advisory committee. Resolves complex advising issues and approves waivers and education coursework substitutions for the unit. Lead initiatives on transfer articulation agreements with Iowa Community colleges for students seeking teacher certification for math and science. Reports directly to the Director of the Teacher Education Services (TES) unit.
