Major/Essential Functions

The School of Art within the Texas Tech University J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts, seeks applications and nominations for a visionary leader as Director of the School of Art at the rank of tenured, full professor. The ideal candidate will lead a thriving program that exemplifies the highest standards of a creative, multi-faceted, and scholarly community. The successful candidate will begin service in the full-time position at the beginning of the 2020 fall semester.
Terminal degree in Art or equivalent professional experience, related programmatic leadership and administrative experience, and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of full professor. A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations. Service duties include program building, as well as commitment to outreach. Service to the department, college, and university is expected. Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding (where appropriate) and who have the proven capacity, or clear potential, to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will:
be conversant in and able to navigate diverse disciplines such as graphic design, art history, art education, studio arts, and a unique PhD in interdisciplinary studies
demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the study and practice of art, scholarly rigor, shared governance, collegiality, a willingness to engage faculty in strategic planning and decision-making
integrate cutting-edge technology to advance and shape School of Art programming
recruit, retain, and advise a diverse, inclusive and supportive faculty cohort and graduate and undergraduate student body
promote and market the School of Art regionally, nationally, and internationally
integrate cutting-edge technology to advance and shape School of Art programming
provide executive financial oversight of the School of Art, including a comprehensive understanding of the budget and other resource allocations in support of the School's mission, vision, and strategic planning, in addition to being able to recommend strategies to expand and contract that budget as demanded by enrollment and the financial abilities of the State, University, and College
demonstrate outstanding verbal, written, electronic, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups in a wide variety of contexts, and foster transdisciplinary collaboration and interdisciplinary study within and among disparate colleges at TTU, and other universities and/or partners, nationally, and internationally

Administers affairs of a clinical, basic science, or college department.

Required Qualifications

Terminal degree in specialty or skill taught in the department Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Mathematical Skills : Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability : Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates who are nationally and/or internationally recognized with a record of distinguished scholarly accomplishment and/or comparable achievements in art; significant organizational leadership, marketing, and fiscal responsibility; an established record of advancing diversity; experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students.

Pay Statement

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
