Ag Specialist I/II - Iowa State Research Farms
The Iowa State University Research Farms is currently seeking applicants for the position of Agricultural Specialist I or II. The ISU Research Farms consist of 12 staffed locations statewide that conduct site-specific agricultural research and demonstrations. The Ag Specialist will assist with managing agronomic research and demonstration activities at the ISU Northeast Research Farm in Nashua, Iowa and will conduct and coordinate on-farm trials across northeast Iowa locations.
Additional responsibilities include managing the Borlaug Learning Center facility, assisting with extension programming, developing and managing the agricultural trials program on cooperating private farmers’ fields and with area agribusinesses, focusing on crops (especially corn and soybeans), soils, manure management, and pest (weeds, insects, and diseases) management. This position involves the recruitment of cooperating farmers and agribusinesses, contacting potential project leaders, building relationships, developing and implementing experimental plans, and keeping cooperating farmers engaged. The Ag Specialist will collect and maintain accurate agricultural records, and in conjunction with the ISU area extension agronomists and agricultural engineers, will assist with agricultural-related extension programming including organizing meetings, answering inquiries, preparing research reports, and providing training.
The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment. The candidate will have the ability to communicate and present information both orally and in writing. The candidate will also have the ability to balance and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and produce exceptional results.
The duties of this position will require driving farm machinery and ISU vehicles both on the farm and off the farm to pick up supplies, buy repair parts, inspect machinery to purchase.
