Summary:
The Assistant Coach provides leadership and direction to all facets of the program in advancing the mission of the University and the Department of Athletics. Specific areas of responsibility include sport specific coaching, recruitment and student-athlete development yielding agreed upon results. All activities shall be conducted within the policies and resource framework of Lehigh University, the Athletics Department, The Patriot League and the NCAA.
Accountabilities:
Student-athlete development
- Develop student-athletes with counseling, advising, educating and motivating
- Develop student-athletes through inspiration, discipline and rewards
- Monitor, evaluate and retain student-athletes
- Assist in team building and character development with student-athletes
Coaching
- Assist in planning practices, training sessions, team and individual conditioning, line-ups and competitive strategies
- Assist in instruction and demonstration of techniques and skills
- Assist in assessing, effectiveness and results.
- Assist in adapting and refining strategies.
- Communicate with athletes and the team on a regular basis
Recruiting
- Assist in identifying, attracting and selecting prospects
- Promote Lehigh through communicating with prospects and families
- Assist in coordinating recruitment strategies, calendar and procedures
- Assist in yielding student prospects
Results
- Assist in achieving competitive success within the Conference
- Assist in achieving academic success across the team
- Assist in graduating student athletes at a rate equal to or above the University rate
- Assist in realizing personal growth and development in every student-athlete
- Assist in promoting recognition of student-athletes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and experience as a student athlete is required
- One to three years related work experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good decision making skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Solid presentation skills
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
- Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification
Special Considerations:
- This position is funded by soft dollars; there is no severance associated with this position
- Will often be required to walk, stand, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 25 lbs
- This position is responsible for driving university-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record is required
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Required to be on call August through May
- Extensive travel is required
FTE: 100%
Grade and Hiring Minimum: 5-40
