Job Description

We are seeking a bright and motivated individual for an Assistant Research Technician position in the laboratory of Hui Feng, M.D., Ph.D., in the Department of Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM).

Our laboratory at BUSM focus on identifying novel genes and pathways that are essential for MYC-driven tumor transformation and progression, particularly for T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukemia, neuroblastoma and breast cancer. In order to do this, we utilize a wide variety of research techniques including in vitro cell culture system and zebrafish models of cancer.

We are looking for an assistant research technician to play an interactive and integral role in these studies with work directly supervised by post-doctoral fellows in the lab.

Duties will include, but are not exclusive to:

  • molecular biological and biochemistry techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, quantitative PCR and western blotting
  • cell culture work
  • isolation and purification of primary cells from zebrafish samples
  • immunofluorescence staining for general and confocal microscopy
  • general husbandry and maintenance of zebrafish lines
  • participation in general laboratory responsibilities, including ordering and organizing laboratory supplies and ensuring maintenance of equipment
  • mentoring of undergraduate students.

Required Skills

Candidates for this position should have at least one year of relevant laboratory experience and a strong interest in cancer and molecular biology.

  • Bachelor's Degree, with coursework in related fields (such as Molecular Biology or Biochemistry or Genetics) strongly preferred
  • One to three years of relevant experience working with the zebrafish
  • proficiency with computer software, including Power Point and Excel
  • must be reliable, organized, and able to work independently as well as with other members of the team and research center
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
