About the opportunity
We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for a Research Fellow – Indigenous to join The University of Sydney’s Project Synergy Research and Development Group.
The Research Fellow – Indigenous will apply their experiences in research and scholarly activity to inform research practice and activity as part of Project Synergy. Most importantly, the incumbent will identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and use their life experiences to appropriately work with Indigenous communities for the research and development activities of Project Synergy. This is an exciting role that will contribute to technology-enabled mental health service reform for better outcomes for people with lived mental health experience, their families and supportive others, health professional and service providers in Australia through applied research and development.
Although this position is a full time role, The University of Sydney encourages part-time and flexible working arrangements, which will be considered for this role at a minimum of 3 days per week,

- A Master’s (by research) or PhD in psychology, clinical psychology or related discipline.
- Proven extensive experience in health and medical research design, ethics and clinical trial governance and trial implementation and management. Research experience in the area of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities highly desirable
- A developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in the discipline or area of expertise
- A developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector.
- Experience in data management and statistical analysis
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, dynamic academic with excellent relationship building skills with both internal and external stakeholders. Ideally the applicant will have experience in academic writing for reports and/or publications.

The Project Synergy Research and Development Group (R&D Group) at the Brain and Mind Centre is responsible for scoping, designing, implementing and delivering Project Synergy research trials which aim to develop (and redevelop) the InnoWell Platform across different population groups and service settings – including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, the veteran community, young children and their families, young people and older adults. Project Synergy is administered by InnoWell which is a propriety limited Australian company focused on delivering technology-enabled mental health and wellbeing solutions. The R&D Group is led by a Scientific Advisor and supported by a Research Director. Over a three-year period, Project Synergy aims to further develop digital mental health in Australia, through research and implementation science trials, working in partnership with key Australian mental health service organisations. The group develops and investigates new and emerging technologies that support young people’s general health and wellbeing including mental health. InnoWell is a joint venture between The University of Sydney and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
