Within the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bristol, the Cryptography research group fosters an internationally leading and inter-disciplinary programme of research; current and previous work spans the full range theoretical and practical aspects relating to cryptography, applied cryptography, and cryptographic engineering.

This post represents an exciting opportunity to join the group as part of the SCARV[1] project, which in turn forms part of the NCSC-supported[2] Research Institute in Hardware Security & Embedded Systems (RISE).

You will work at the intersection of computer architecture and cryptography, in collaboration with industrial (i.e., Cerberus Security Labs. and Thales) and academic partners, to deliver more efficient, more secure platforms based on RISC-V. Given the project goals, a strong background in a) implementation (e.g., side-channel) attacks on cryptography, and/or b) use of high-performance and/or cloud-based technologies for computation, communication, and storage is therefore desirable.

Although you will have at least a first degree and preferably a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline, we view relevant applied (e.g., industrial) experience as extremely valuable and therefore equally encourage applicants of this type.

This post is offered on a part or full time, open ended contract (with funding up to 31 January 2023). It is anticipated that interviews will take place shortly after the closing date, with a negotiable start date as soon after that as is feasible.
