About the opportunity 

We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for an Administration Officer in Research to join the Research Innovation and Research students’ portfolio part of Faculty of Health Sciences based at Lidcombe.

As the Administration Officer you will provide specified administrative support under general direction to the overall Research portfolio including operational and event support for the Research & Innovation and Research Students portfolios. You will also be responsible for diary management, travel and expenses support for the Associate Dean Research Students and Associate Dean Research & Innovation.

  • Certificate IV or degree in business administration or equivalent with relevant administration experience.
  • demonstrated high-level organisational skills including excellent time and workload management skills with ability to prioritise through understanding the context and relative importance of the work and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • well-developed negotiation, conflict resolution, relationship building and influencing skills
  • demonstrated high level skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • strong problem solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods.

The successful candidate will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in handling a wide range of enquiries and providing excellent customer service. Demonstrated ability to understand the context of an issue or enquiry and determine the appropriate response including triage or seeking additional information and employing tact, diplomacy and discretion at all times.

The Faculty enjoys a strong and dynamic research culture resulting from its commitment to achieving and sustaining research excellence in areas of established and emerging research strengths and is committed to providing a quality educational and research training experience for Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students. The Research portfolio consists of two portfolio areas – (i) Research and Innovation (R&I) , led by an A/Dean Research &Innovation and a Manager, Research &Innovation; and (ii) Research Students led by an A/Dean Research Students and an HDR Support Manager. R&I focuses on developing and supporting academic staff in their research activities while Research Students focuses on developing and supporting HDR and Honours students and their academic Supervisors. The position reports to one of the two portfolio Managers however that line manager will manage the position with reference to and consultation with the other manager.

The Faculty has approximately 250 academic staff, 100 professional staff, 4,500 students and 300 HDR students.
