Payroll Coordinator - Tufts Support Services


Tufts Support Services (TSS) at Tufts University delivers administrative services to schools and central units across the university’s three campuses. Administrative activities that are common across the many central divisions and schools have been consolidated in a shared services center, allowing expert teams to provide exemplary administrative support to faculty and staff. TSS provides support for transactional tasks in human resources, payroll, finance, and information technology, along with professional services for budgeting and other functions, operating under a governance model that includes service level agreements. TSS is customer-focused and strives for continuous improvement and high customer satisfaction.
Payroll and Data Administration manages the day-to-day administration and maintenance of employee job and personal data, including establishing employee records for new hires, conducting transactions for changes as a result of promotions, transfers, status changes, employee separations, personal life events, and the collection and approval of time and attendance data. Payroll specialists manage payroll for all university employees, including overseeing the collection and approval of time and attendance data, processing payroll data, processing benefits, tax, and other deductions, distributing pay, producing reports and ensuring regulatory compliance.
The Payroll Coordinator enters and maintains accurate employee/payroll records in the HR Information System (PeopleSoft) as well as checking and auditing timekeeping records for compliance with established standards, maintaining time and attendance records, entering new hires into the payroll system, posting changes in pay and tax status, and miscellaneous changes. Responsible for employee Masterfile accuracy, payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing requests for paycheck advances, and processing terminations in compliance with university policies and federal and state employment laws. Data input or change requests may be submitted on Personnel Action Forms (PAF), electronic workflow (ePAF), employee timesheets, supporting documentation, or through Employee Self-Service. The Payroll Coordinator reviews forms and paperwork for completeness and accuracy, following up on missing or inaccurate information or approvals, and enters new data or makes changes in the system.


Basic Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in payroll processing environment.
Experience with PeopleSoft HR suite or equivalent HR-ERP or payroll system.
Knowledge of MS Office.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent customer service orientation and strong oral and written communication skills.
Aptitude for using technology.
Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, problem-solve and research thoroughly, contribute to peer learning and collaborate in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Some night and weekend commitments, including participation in the administrator-on-call rotation, required.
