Trainee Technician Apprenticeship – Mechanical Engineering

As part of the Faculty’s Advanced Apprenticeship Training Program, the Faculty of Engineering wish to recruit two Trainee Technicians under the government’s Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme.
The trainees will undertake a full time apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering commencing September 1st 2019 and ending on August 31st 2023.
Successful candidates will receive practical training in the Faculty’s extensively equipped engineering workshops and broad based training on a range of standard engineering processes, all from experienced qualified engineering technicians.
This initial basic training is undertaken over the first 4 months followed by focused specialist training within the designated areas of the Faculty, allowing the trainees to build on their new practical skills and knowledge in a specialist engineering discipline.
There will be opportunities over the apprenticeship period to learn and train on a wide range of cutting edge manufacturing processes including CNC machining, Computer Aided Design [CAD], Computer Aided Manufacture [CAM], Rapid Prototyping, Additive / Composites Manufacturing and Materials Testing.
Formal academic training for the Advanced Level Apprenticeship programme will be achieved via a day release program at Nottingham College where successful applicants will be expected to progress to HNC level in a specific engineering discipline.
Qualifications to be achieved will include:
- Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations
- Level 2 Award in Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
- Level 2 Award in Employer Rights and Responsibilities
- Level 2 Functional Skills in English
- Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths
- Level 2 Functional Skills in ICT
- Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma: Discipline to be agreed
- Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering (Technical Certificate)
- Higher National Certificate (HNC)
Applicants should have, or be expected to achieve a minimum of, 5 GCSEs at grade 9 - 3 including Maths, English and Science, preferably all at grade 6 or above,
The successful candidates should be enthusiastic and eager to learn new skills and techniques working within a team of highly skilled technicians, with the ability to show attention to detail and rise to the challenge this prestigious opportunity presents.
Both positions are fixed-term (until 31 August 2023), full-time (36.25 hours per week).
