Iowa State University’s Memorial Union (MU) is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Program Coordinator I/ Event Operations Manager. The Memorial Union is a 342,000 square foot multipurpose facility in the heart of the Iowa State Campus. Memorial Union staff members manage 27 meeting rooms and event spaces as well as the Student Activities Center, which houses an on-site arts and crafts studio, a music venue, and a bowling and billiards operation in addition to services for the 850+ student organizations on campus. Tenants of the building include a dining and catering offices and facilities, a visitor center, the university’s book store, the veteran’s center, Greek life offices, student legal services, international student offices, study abroad offices and a post office. Under general supervision, the position will coordinate all facility activities during morning operating hours to provide a physical environment that promotes institutional excellence. This position will provide direct supervision of student building manager staff in setting up meeting rooms and meeting clients’ meeting space needs. They will work to coordinate custodial efforts to ensure a safe clean and welcoming environment for the Memorial union guests. The Event Operations Manager interprets and implements university policies and procedures for facility usage and programming. This position will facilitate security and emergency response procedures during morning and weekend hours, as well as the successful 24/7 operation of the Memorial Union. The successful candidate will possess the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, faculty, staff, vendors and the general public. Effective interpersonal skills will be essential to be successful in the position. In addition, the candidate will possess the ability to lead, coach, motivate, direct, train, and provide resources to staff members of the unit.
