The Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, Institute of English and American Studies is inviting applications for the position of the

Chair (W2) of British Cultural Studies

to be filled by April 1st 2021. We seek candidates with a focus on British Cultural Studies, including its historical and postcolonial perspectives in teaching and research. The successful candidate needs to have specialized in at least two of the following research areas: popular culture, digitalization, media studies. The holder of the position is expected to co-operate with his/her colleagues in the Institute of English and American Studies as well as in the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies and to reach out to disciplines such as social sciences, history, literary studies and media studies. He/She is further expected to contribute to interdisciplinary and cross-faculty research, to existing research and teaching networks of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and to provide impulses for new initiatives in the Research Priority Area “Culture and Societal Change”. He/she should be committed to teach on all levels of the courses of study offered by the Institute of English and American Studies, including the teacher training programme. Initiatives in developing new programmes of study and cross-disciplinary teaching are welcome. We further expect a strong commitment to committee work and academic self-administration. We prefer candidates with a track record in successful grant applications and experiences in international settings. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
