Academic Director of Cardiff University’s Social Sciences Research Park (SPARK)

Cardiff University is seeking an exceptional individual to provide academic leadership for SPARK – the world’s first social science research park, due to open in Spring 2021.
SPARK is a major capital and cultural investment in social science-led interdisciplinary research at Cardiff University. It builds on the University’s considerable strength and depth across the social sciences.

At the heart of SPARK are the ideas of co-creation and collaboration: people working together across academic disciplines and with practitioners across private, public and third sectors to address some of society’s most pressing problems. Cardiff has a long tradition of working across disciplines and has well-established collaborative relationships with a range of external partner organisations. SPARK will be physically located at the heart of the University’s multidisciplinary Innovation Campus in a new, purpose-built 12,000sq.m building.

As Director, you will have the opportunity to steer and shape the development of SPARK in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders with the aim of establishing the University as an international leader in the design, development and delivery of innovative and impactful social science-led research.

The successful candidate will have a track record of high-quality social science research, significant and successful leadership in interdisciplinary research and innovation, and a demonstrable commitment to challenge- and social science-led interdisciplinary research in collaboration with public, private and/or third sector organisations.

This post is full-time and open-ended.

Salary: a point on the Cardiff University senior pay scale.

Anticipated start date: 1st September 2019
