About the role

The Australian Research Council Discovery Project and DECRA schemes fund high quality research across all disciplines except for medicine. The Faculty of Science have an exceptional history of success in these schemes, as well as strength in National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) funding. The Research Development Officer will manage the ARC Discovery, DECRA and some NHMRC grants for the Faculty of Science.

In this role, you will assist researchers to submit 100 – 120 excellent applications per year. As well as managing the grant submission process, you will assist with post-award processes, including establishment and reporting. You will often be the first person that academics call when they have a question about their ARC funding or their application. Your role is to ensure that their applications are strong, and that their projects run efficiently.

You will work with the Senior Research Initiative Coordinator to analyse our performance in these schemes, and to develop new ways to assist our researchers when applying for these funds.

About you

To be successful in this role you will be passionate about supporting researchers to secure funding. You will be good at building relationships across the university, with both academics and administrators.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Specialised knowledge of grant funding programs and funding rules including grants management across the life-cycle (pre and post award).
  • Expert planning and organisation skills, especially in the successful coordination of high prestige and high volume application grant schemes with non-negotiable external deadlines.
  • Clear understanding of post-award processes for government grants.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing successful service-oriented administration of complex programs.

A degree in a relevant discipline with subsequent experience and/or equivalent mix of education and relevant experience is essential.

This role will suit someone who enjoys working with talented scientists and is good with deadlines. It is an excellent opportunity for a motivated research administrator to join the highly experienced Research & Industry Team in the Faculty of Science.
