Reporting to the Head of Legal services you will be primarily responsible for the provision of a full legal service, day to day legal advice on operational matters including in-house legal advice, and the procurement and management of external independent legal services.
Working with senior stakeholders you will identify legal risks and present and support the implementation of pragmatic solutions including the development of the Legal Services strategy. In addition you will be responsible for providing advice on a range of legal issues and leading on new regulatory requirements for the higher education sector.
Leading on legal activities across the University and subsidiary companies you will develop and implement effective processes and controls for the management of Legal Services and wider compliance portfolio including the development of the Legal Services strategy.
You will help lead the Legal Services team managing a full and varied case load of legal matters and act as deputy to the Head of Legal Services providing line-management and supervision for the wider legal and compliance team as required.
You should be a qualified lawyer, have significant post qualification experience and a successful track record at senior level in the development and implementation of professional services. Information governance management experience is desirable. You must also have a sound knowledge of the legal and compliance frameworks within which a UK University must operate in relation to information governance and an understanding of the implications of information, both internal and external, that can be mined from business systems and elsewhere.
You will have excellent organisational skills, the ability to build rapport at all levels in the organisation, excellent negotiating skills and the ability to be influential with senior stakeholders both internal and external to the organisation.
