RESEARCH SCIENTIST, TSAI LAB, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory (PILM), to conduct and oversee research activities in the laboratory of Professor Li-Huei Tsai, the director of PILM.  The lab conducts research investigating the molecular-, circuit-, and systems-level basis of neurological disorders that impact learning and memory. Model systems include transgenic mice, human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models, and human brain samples. Multidisciplinary approaches are employed, including in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology and neurocircuitry mapping, neurobehavioral testing, biochemistry and immunohistochemistry, large scale imaging, epigenomic and transcriptomic approaches, and bioinformatics analysis of big data.  Will collaborate with the PI and other lab members on the design and execution of experiments. Responsibilities include primary research into the molecular and brain circuit mechanisms of neuro degeneration; supervising the execution of research strategy, managing internal and external collaborations, and integrating efforts across projects; helping lead collaborations with groups including MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Broad Institute, and the Neurodegeneration Consortium; serving as hiring manager and general supervisor of technical staff.  May serve as co-investigator on grants and aid in fund-raising activities including writing, presentations, and event support. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in neurobiology/neuroscience with a systems and circuits background; at least five years’ experience in a research and an academic environment; experience with research proposal development, writing, and editing; strong project management, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively keep teams, projects, and deliverables on track; ability to work both independently and collaboratively; and the interpersonal skills necessary to promote collaboration and cooperation among teams.  Experience with in vivo electrophysiology and/or calcium imaging would be advantageous.  Job #17447
