Location: Lincoln
Salary: From £27,830 per annum
This post is fixed term for 18 months.
Closing Date: Sunday 09 June 2019

The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint a Research Project Coordinator to join the Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems (L-CAS). The successful candidate will be employed as part of the First Fleet project (the world’s first fleet of multi modal soft fruit robots) project, which aims to develop a fully integrated robotic fleet for the soft fruit industry.

We are looking to recruit a Research Project Coordinator who will be based at the University of Lincoln’s Riseholme campus and will have responsibility for the maintenance and development of a small-scale strawberry farm and food handling unit. The job role would be suitable for those with a background in agriculture, horticulture, environmental or biological sciences.

The primary focus of the role is to oversee a key research site linked to a number of high profile agri-food technology research grants. As well as managing the site, the postholder will work on field trials related to a number of research deliverables, involving the operation of a fleet of mobile robots. These will include UV trials, image analysis and other practical tasks.

The post requires the exercise of high degrees of professionalism, judgement, creativity and leadership and the ability to command confidence at all levels of academic and professional services staff.

Applicants will have responsibility for organising and providing technical leadership to satisfy project objectives in all aspects of the project work. This is a key role which will require the post holder to possess a significant level of organisational and management skills in order to provide a high level of pro-active support, including management of key project priorities, as well as a sense for technology and willingness to engage in training on the use and operation of robotic platforms.

This post will be a fixed term for 18 months with excellent opportunities for ongoing career development and progression. The successful candidate will contribute to the University’s ambition to achieve international recognition as a research intensive institution.

Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Prof. Marc Hanheide (mhanheide@lincoln.ac.uk) and Dr Grzegorz Cielniak (gcielniak@lincoln.ac.uk)

As an institutional Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder we are committed to advancing gender equality in STEM, therefore female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position does not fulfil the UK Visas & Immigration sponsorship criteria for Tier 2.
