To maintain integrity of the operating system environment. To perform system software upgrades including planning and scheduling, testing, and coordination. To perform workstation and server administration setup. To coordinate disk space planning and management. To maintain growth statistics, space forecasts, tape libraries, and software and hardware inventories. To perform data backups and recoveries. To monitor and maintain continuity with system software licensing and maintenance agreements. To provide recommendations regarding hardware and system software planning and budgeting. To maintain production change control schedule and participates in change control. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis.
This position will also be assigned several roles on the Operations Team. Some of the roles will be fixed and others will come and go based on the needs of the moment. Fixed roles include server administration support and operational support. Responsibilities include, monitoring disk space management, ensuring backups complete successfully, and alert management as well as general break/fix support.
In the operational support role, this position will be the first level of response for handling non-routine incidents and requests. Responsibilities will include handling handle service requests and break/fix issues on the Operations Team as well as addressing problematic backups, monitor of disk space issues, and responding to system alerts among other routine activities. Additionally, the role is responsible for the production of a daily operations report used to manage disk space, backups, alerting, and other operational concerns. The roles that will rotate include pager (on-call assignment) and operational support. The position will be required to carry a pager or on-call phone on a rotating basis for one week at a time. On occasion, the position will be prioritized to handle tasks associated with ongoing IT projects for various services supported by the Infrastructure Department or projects in support of other UAB IT units or customer business units.
(Annual Salary: $52,228.80 - $82,867.20)
Associate s degree in Information Systems or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
