The candidate must demonstrate potential for excellence in research linking urban design to a large number of important urban planning objectives, including sustainable urbanism, urban form analysis, urban network analysis, land-use and transportation analysis, cities transformation and performance, and city design and development. The RE will be responsible of urban street networks and spatial analysis, scenario planning, digital visualization, GIS mapping, and media graphics. The Research Staff will coordinate and support publications of research outcomes in high ranked peer-reviewed journals. The RE will first concentrate on the selection and description of existing case study neighborhoods in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, noting their built form and street connectivity similarities and differences. Following this, he/she will focus on the study of their connectivity, addressing network efficiency (directness of paths between origins and destinations) and network centrality (using graph theory metrics and their ability to detect location advantages and their impact on the formation of local activity hubs). In a following scale of analysis—the global scale—connections between neighborhoods will be addressed by the RE, focusing on the distribution of centrality and location advantages at metropolitan level. The RE will be responsible for analysis and interpretation of data at both cities, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. He/she will also be responsible of training Master students on different simulation tools used in the project.
