About the position

The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher in "Computer Vision".

The Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has a vacancy for a 100 % position as a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Computer Science (IDI). The position is hosted at the Norwegian Colour and Visual Computing Laboratory (Colourlab), Gjøvik.

The appointment is for a term of three years. The position of post-doctoral fellow is a fixed-term position with the primary objective of qualifying for work in top academic posts. The position represents an excellent opportunity for an individual to develop his/her career and contribute to the further development of the field.

Job description

The recruited postdoctoral researcher will contribute to advancing the state of the art in video processing and computer vision. Research areas will be, but not limited to:

  • Multi-target tracking and segmentation for video surveillance,
  • Video processing for medical imaging,
  • Vision assisted navigation for autonomous vehicles,
  • Deep learning for visual computing.

The candidate will also have teaching responsibilities for the department.

Main duties and responsibilities

The recruited postdoctoral researcher will contribute to advancing the state of the art in video processing and computer vision. Research areas will be, but not limited to:

  • Multi-target tracking and segmentation for video surveillance,
  • Video processing for medical imaging,
  • Vision assisted navigation for autonomous vehicles,
  • Deep learning for visual computing.

The candidate will also have teaching responsibilities for the department.

Qualification requirements

  • PhD in computer science.
  • A strong background in computer vision, image and video processing, and machine learning (especially deep learning).
  • A strong background in MATLAB, Python, C/C++, deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch).
  • Experience with computationally heavy and real-time video processing algorithms.
  • Experience with video analysis for multi-target tracking.

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in [subject area] or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

Other qualifications

  • Very good written and oral English language skills.
  • Eagerness to disseminate research results through scientific publications and presentations at international conferences.

Personal characteristics

  • A high level of personal responsibility, initiative, motivation and ability to work in a project team as well as independently.
  • Good organization and communication skills with interest in wider context than their own research and ability to engage in cross-disciplinary and cross-sectorial teams.

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal suitability, in terms of the qualification requirements specified in the advertisement.

We offer

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years.

Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
