Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor (RAP)/Post-doctoral Fellow (PDF) in the Sau Po Centre on Ageing within the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 495659) (to commence as soon as possible and no later than August 1, 2019 on a two-year temporary basis for PDF; or on a two-year fixed-term basis for RAP, with the possibility of renewal)

The Centre is conducting a study of building Hong Kong into an age-friendly city. The tasks include professional support to the districts in promotion of age-friendly city; sustaining the membership of World Health Organization (WHO) Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities; ambassador engagement; and territory-wide programmes support on elderly employment.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Social Sciences, Sociology, Psychology, Statistics or a related discipline.  They should demonstrate strong competency in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese.  Those with post-doctoral research experience, especially a strong background in gerontology research and an excellent track record of publications are preferred.  The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator to plan, coordinate, and implement district engagement activities; evaluate territory-wide programmes; oversee data collection and data analysis; prepare reports; supervise Research Assistants; and perform any other relevant tasks as assigned. There will be ample opportunities to work with research professionals, elderly ambassadors, as well as stakeholders in the local community.

The PDF is expected to devote full-time to research. While the focus of the RAP should be on research; some teaching duties in postgraduate or undergraduate programmes may be assigned.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The RAP appointment on fixed term will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
