The nutritionist will lead the nutrition component of the on-site and online wellness program through working with National Center for Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD), University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Lakeshore Research Collaborative, Department of Nutrition Sciences, Lakeshore Foundation, and any additional partners as necessary.Manage a new culinary lab that includes purchasing foods, organizing cooking classes with guest chefs, developing new recipes, and teaching medically tailored nutrition classes for specific disabilities and health conditions.Maintain a new culinary lab with a clean work environment and engaging setting that includes purchasing food products, meeting regularly with program participants, and establishing a healthy atmosphere of wellness. Daily communication with the appropriate individuals on staff to help create resources and materials to build a telehealth program that best serves the needs of people with disability and chronic health conditions.Responsible for creating nutrition materials for the NCHPAD website, newsletter, and blog.Film nutrition videos; attend health fairs, present within the community, and any other nutrition-related projects that arise. Perform other duties as assigned
This position will require an experienced individual who will provide nutrition information, education and instruction; perform evaluation on nutrition-related activities; prepare reports; prepare instructional materials and meals; establish program components for monitoring and evaluating an online and onsite nutrition program.
Other duties include:
Scheduling and conducting nutrition assessments,
Education and instruction;
Teaching and coordinating group nutrition classes related to people with disabilities and chronic health conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, depression).
Work with faculty in the Department of Nutrition Sciences to identify best practices and innovative medically tailored nutrition programs that can be applied in a wellness program at the Lakeshore Foundation as part of the UAB federally funded National Center for Health, Physical Activity and Disability(NCHPAD) program.
Annual Salary Range: $42,598.4 - $66,788.8
Bachelor's degree in Dietetics or a related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed as a Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Alabama State Board of Examiners for Dietetics (BOED) required.
