The Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK) carries out both preclinical and clinical research within numerous fields. Linked to the department are approximately 450 researchers, postgraduate students, teachers and technical & administrative staff and we currently have about 150 PhD students. The department is conducting undergraduate courses for medical students, physiotherapist students, biomedicine students and biomedical laboratory students.

Division

The Urology Unit at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery is working in close collaboration with the urologic teams at the Department of Pelvic Cancer at the Karolinska University Hospital. Research is mainly using clinical epidemiology methods run randomized trials as well as observational studies. The main focus is around prognostic research and evaluation of treatment of different urologic tumor forms. We link healthcare data from the National Board of Health and Welfare with different healthcare quality registers, population data from Statistics Sweden, and regional and local clinical databases and biobanks. Duties

The work will mainly include linkage and analyses of large observational databases, from requesting linkage of data, data cleaning, descriptive analyses, categorical analyses to regression analyses (such as logistic regression, Poisson and Cox regression), interpretation of data, drafting and revising manuscripts. In some studies, we do also biobank samples or use banked biological samples for molecular analyses.

Entry requirements

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.
The applicant should have deep knowledge in and experience of epidemiologic study design and biostatistics and can have either medical or statistical undergraduate training. Experience of doing studies in the large Swedish healthcare databases, population registers, and healthcare quality registers is a merit but not a demand. Likewise, experience of molecular analyses in epidemiological studies is a merit. Knowledge in the Swedish language is an advantage.
