The Director of the Center for the Arts will provide innovative leadership and strategic management for the Center for the Arts, which supports and promotes the academic mission, research, cultural leadership, and artistic and intellectual enrichment of the College and University. The center will act as an intersection between faculty, students, the greater Northeastern community and the City of Boston. The Director will also oversee the university’s Gallery 360 space.

The successful candidate will be responsible for programming and executing a diverse range of events, performances, exhibitions, symposia, conferences and public programs which showcase the creative and scholarly works of CAMD’s faculty, staff, students, alumni, and invited artists and scholars. The Director will collaborate with units across CAMD as appropriate, including academic units such as the School of Architecture; Department of Art + Design; Department of Communication Studies; School of Journalism; Department of Music; Department of Theatre,as well as other Centers, such as the Center for Design. The Director shall integrate departmental, College and University activities into the Center’s programming to underscore CAMD’s role as a place to learn, be challenged and explore new perspectives.

With the charge of expanding the visibility and reputation of Northeastern’s visual arts, the Director brings regional, national, international, and student and faculty exhibitions to the university’s Gallery 360. The Director identifies and curates exhibitions; collaborates with faculty, students, and staff; and works with visiting artists and curators to mount contemporary intellectually and aesthetically challenging exhibits designed to develop and build a sophisticated and effective arts presence on the Northeastern campus. Responsibilities include the planning, execution, and oversight of all exhibits that revolve through Northeastern’s primary exhibit space in Gallery 360.

The Director will collaborate with the CAMD’s Leadership Team on the strategic positioning of creative practice research, and work closely with the Dean on evolving a strategic vision that enhances and mirrors the strategic mission of CAMD and Northeastern University Effective collaboration with the Senior Development Officer on outreach through special events, corporate, foundation and individual solicitation, and cultivating and maintaining cooperative relationships with arts, media and cultural communities locally, nationally, and internationally, is essential. Additionally, the Director will collaborate with the College’s Director of Communications & Marketing on marketing materials, publications and other outreach efforts to increase awareness of Center programming.

She or he will also be responsible for developing the Center’s annual budget, and maintaining accurate financial records.
